Whose FAMily is Holy?? Everyone's!!!!
1. Start with prayer....
Response: O God of Creation, you have blessed us with the changing of the seasons. As we welcome the autumn months, may the earlier setting of the sun remind us to take time to rest. R May the brilliant colors of the leaves remind us of the wonder of your creation. R May the steam of our breath in the cool air remind us that it is you who give us the breath of life. R May the harvest from the fields remind us of the abundance we have been given and bounty we are to share with others. R May the dying of summer’s spirit remind us of your great promise that death is temporary and life is eternal. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever.R Amen. |
2. Choose an article or video from the list...Feel free to summarize for small children.

3. Take Some Time to Discuss, Draw or Reflect!
- What does the word Holy mean?
- What are some things that are Holy and how can you tell that they are?
- The GOOD NEWS is that everyone who is baptized is already HOLY!! We have the Holy Spirit in our hearts and God's Grace is all around us. YOUR FAMILY IS HOLY! Really Holy--all the time.
Your family as a tree!!! You can draw your own tree or print this one.
- You have roots—to feed you and keep you grounded—deep values, culture, etc
- Trunk and branches for support—that grow in all kinds of ways—what makes you strong NOW
- Twisted and bent trees still grow toward the light!!!
- You are always growing toward greater holiness—dreams, aspirations, hopes.
- Fill in your tree—at the bottom write or draw what you family is rooted in your values and culture, around the trunk what keeps you strong and together now, and in the leaves what you hope to grow into.
6. A Challenge
Your family IS holy, and we are ALL called to always keep growing in holiness and getting closer to God. Families can grow in holiness by praying together, loving each other more, caring for others, each other, and the world. Brainstorm about ways to grow in holiness and pick one thing you can do now. Make sure it is something simple enough that you can really do it right now!! When you have decided on something you need to all commit to doing it. Shake hands to seal the deal!! |
7. Pray Together
We give thanks... For families that are doing the best they can. For a community that can help us. For a God who loves us sooooo much. For a church that can help us grow in holiness. For hope for a better, more peaceful world. |
