Parent Child First Eucharist Digital session
I am so sorry we missed you for this mini-retreat experience. I do encourage you to take your time with these activities and talk with your children. Activities are numbered in order! You can easily break it up and do it in sections. If you have any questions or difficulties just email Julie Sutton or call or text 330-415-6238. Make sure at the end you use the communication box to let us know you have completed the activities and anything else you want us to know!
1. Start with a prayer of Thanksgiving because Eucharist means Thanksgiving!
2. Talk to your child about what they and you know about bread.
- Where does bread come from?
- How is it made and what ingredients do you need?
- Have you made bread? Is there a special bread you make in your family for special occasions?
- What is your favorite bread?
After the video--talk again:
- Who are the people in the video that make and eat fry bread?
- Did you learn anything new about bread or how to make it?
- Talk about how that bread helped link the people to each other and their history. (Families make and eat it together, it links them to their history, how they make it changed over time because of what foods were available)
- What does it mean to say "Bread is life"? (For much of history bread was what people ate to survive)
- What do we use bread for in the Catholic church/Mass?
- Why do we use bread? (Because Jesus told us to at the Last Supper)
3. Let's talk about the Eucharistic Bread
The next video is all about what the Church teaches about Eucharist and what the artist believes about how it works in his life. It has a LOT in it and you may even want to watch more than once.
Then you can talk about it:

Then you can talk about it:
- Talk about where he is in the video and what they see in that place.
- Talk about his actions and how we know he is Catholic from what he does with his body.
- Finally, talk about what he says. Again---it is a LOT, but there is a list of words and phrases below that may help you. Pick a few things that are meaningful to your and your child. If you end up repeating the refrain--Real Presence, Real Presence, Real Presence--for the rest of the day maybe it will hep you appreciate what we sometimes take for granted!!!
4. Decorate a Candle to remember the importance of Eucharist in our life as Church and family.

5. As the time for First Eucharist nears, take notice of the holiness of your daily lives and appreciate the beauty in simple things of life--like bread and laughter and being together.
Use the blessing included in the bag to bless your child as a close to this session and as often as you like afterwards. You can hang it up on your fridge and pray it on the way out the door to school or at bedtime or at mealtime. Finally--remember to use the communication box to communicate that you have finished the activities! Peace, Julie
