Catechist: Mr Hanlin [email protected] March 7 Hello Students: This is the 3rd Sunday of Lent and I hope you are doing well. This weeks lesson, in the weeklies, is about the Ten Commandments. Pages 1 thru 3 is a play that starts in Egypt. We see God, with his servant Moses, frees the Hebrews and they escape slavery. They continue traveling thru the desert and their destination is Mt. Sinai. When they reach the mountain, Moses climbs the the mountain to pray. There he meets God and receives the Ten Commandments. Later they make a box, or Ark, to keep the stone tablets in. King David brought the Ark to Jerusalem and King Solomon builds a Temple. This weeks Gospel Jesus become upset with what is happening at the God's Temple. He is angry with the money changers and turning the Temple into a market place. The rest of the weeklies cover the commandments of how we treat God and each other. Have a Great Week! Jay Hanlin February 28 Hello Students: I wanted to start by saying "Thank You" for participating in PSR class during this difficult time. I pray that by the end of our year we have a opportunity to meet in a PSR classroom. I'm thankful that we can still communicate with the use of technology. This is the second Sunday of Lent. In todays Gospel we read about Jesus Transfiguration. In todays weeklies on page 4 we read that 3 of the Apostles went with Jesus to pray. During that time they witnessed Jesus transfigured, with dazzling white clothes and speaking with Moses and Elijah. It was also revealed that Jesus was God's Son and we should listen to him. Gospel Video Page 5 Here is a story from the, Book of Genesis, about Abraham and Sarah. They was the first ancestors of the People of Israel. Their devotion to God was so strong that they offered their only son in sacrifice. But God sent an Angel to stop Abraham from harming his son. Pages 6-7 Is an exercise in how we "Honor your Father and your Mother".Think about how you behave and what you might do better. Page 8 Has a fun word find and reveals a picture in the second half. Thank You again for your time in PSR class and I hope to see you soon. Jay Hanlin February 21 Lent it 3 Minutes and Gospel for the 1st Sunday of Lent Have a good weekend!! Hello Student: Welcome to the first Sunday of Lent. Lent is a time to prepare our hearts for the Easter Season and the Risen Lord. As it says in the Bible " Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the path." Lent is a season of Penance and Prayer. This Sunday's Weeklies the first page has a crossword puzzle using important term about Lent. Page 2 is a story about a young man's temptation to do wrong. The story reminds us of how we should act and to be honest with one another. Page 4 Tells a Gospel story of Jesus being tested for 40 days. Just like the season of Lent which last for 40 days. Page 5 Gives us a story of God's covenant with Noah and the whole human race. The last page has a word puzzle which will review some of the things we learned over the last few weeks. The puzzle gives us an important message when completed. Have a Blessed Week! Jay Hanlin February 7 Here is Mr Hanlin's message for the week and the Gospel video and here is a video about St. Josephine Bakhita. Hello Students: This weeks lesson we are going to talk about how we love and treat others. The first page of the Weekly hand out give us some examples of things that sometimes happen in our lives. Think about "What Would Jesus Do" and how you might best handle life's ups and downs. It is not always easy to treat other with love and respect, but it is the right thing to do. Listen to your Heart and it will guide you in these difficult situations. I believe thru the Heart we are connected to the "Holy Spirit" because we have a good feeling when we have done something with Love. Review the rest of the hand out, but I want the work out of the Venture Handbook. Turn to Pages 32-35 and read "The Ten Commandments". They help us to understand, how and why, we should treat each other and ourselves. Page 36 read the Blessings from Jesus called the "Beatitudes". Think of and appreciate the blessings you have in your life, and remember to pass them on to others. Page 37 read "What are the Precepts of the Church?" It gives us a list of our obligations to the Church, which in turn helps us to grow in Love. January 31 This Venture weeklies starts with a story of Father Augustus Tolton. Interesting to see how African Americans helped shape this country in a positive way. Some where brought here against their will, but was still able to live amazing life's of love and contributions. Pages 2 -3 Tells us an inspiring story of a young man's efforts to help the poor in many parts of the world. Pray for the poor and think how you might help in some small way. Sometimes small things bring about great change in other peoples lives. Page 4 Tells us the Gospel story of Jesus being a teacher and healer. Page 5 I encourage you to read each story and look up the Bible verses to find the correct answer. It's good practice and it expanded my knowledge about people in the Bible. Page 6-7 Read the different stories and think about how you would normally react and how you should react to each of these life problems. Also read in your Venture Handbook page 32 item #5 "Why is working for the common good important." January 24 Hello Students: We have two hand out lesson to talk about this week. January 17 hand out helps us to understand the structure of the Catholic Church and how we are all called, by God, to participate in a vocation. There are many vocation to explore in the Catholic Church. By reading this week hand out you can get a better understanding of the different vocations that God maybe calling to be apart of. My calling vocation is the Sacrament of Matrimony. Which my wife and I have been married for 37 years and have 3 wonderful children. Another way I help the Church is teaching PSR class and I've been blessed by meeting all of the nice students. Keep an open mind and pray for God to guide you to your life's vocation. January 24 This hand out shows a map of key places that Jesus traveled and taught the Good News. These cities and places have changed over the centuries, but they still here for us to visit if we choose to. In Jesus's time traveling was difficult and took time to travel between these places. But in our modern world we can travel thousands of miles in a relative short time or by using a computer, visit these place virtually from our home. I have never had the pleasure of visiting the "Holy Land", but maybe some day I will and you may too. Page 2 has a modern interview with the Gospel writer Mark. This story helps us to understand how the early Christians practiced the faith and how it spread to other parts of the world. Pages 4 and 5 tells us about Jesus's first disciples and how they lived in the area around the Sea of Galilee. Pages 6 and 7 tells us the story of Jonah and the whale. It shows us the power of God's calling and the everlasting love and forgiveness God has for all people. Here is the Gospel video. Here is a video tour of Capernaum now! Well that's all I have to share so until next time, stay healthy and God bless Jay Hanlin January 10 This weeks hand out is about the blessings of the Sacrament of Baptism. Most of us were Baptized as babies and don't remember the event. I encourage you to ask your parents about you're Baptism. Ask who was the Priest, Godparents, and who else was there. Get details of how you behaved. Some of us cried, some where happy. You may be surprised at what happened to your event. Each of us are different, but we are united in the Holy Spirit. Also read in your hand book, pg19-20, "What happens at Baptism?". It may answer any questions you may have. In your hand out, on page 5, you can read what it means to be a servant of God, and a lovely song from the Old Testament. I pray you all have a safe and healthy week. I also hope in 2021 we will meet in a classroom, I'm looking forward to meet you in person. God Bless December 20 Hello Students: This is the 4th Sunday of Advent and Christmas is less then a week away! I pray that you all stay safe and healthy. Please pray the "Hail Mary" found on the first page of you weeklies handout, and think how Mary was blessed by doing what God wanted her to do. By following God, Mary gave us all blessings through Jesus. Page 2 Tells us a story about how a family shared a special Christmas activity. Think about what make your family Christmas so special. "Sunday Gospel" tell us about the, Angel Gabriel, visit to Mary, and how she fits into God's plan for all us. Read about God's promise to King David and how God will bring the Messiah from his descendants. Read "Living the Gospel" and learn about a special painting from long, long ago. That's all for this week and may you all have a blessed and Merry Christmas!! December 13 Dear Students: It is the third Sunday of Advent. Christmas is just around the corner and my family is getting excited to get together. I'm sure your family will have a great Christmas despite COVID. Page one on the hand out asks the question "What is the best present you ever received?" The students response range from things, like a phone or surfboard, to special experiences with family and friends. Think about what your answer would be and write it down. I think its ok to have more then one best present. "Why the Bells Rang" Is a story that really expresses what Christmas is all about. From helping a person in need to a small gift of love, that can make a big difference. "Sunday Gospel" tells a little bit more of John the Baptist and explains why Jesus is an unexpected Messiah. Jesus was not quite was the Jewish people were hoping for, but God knows best. 'Tis the Season puzzle is a great activity to engage you mind and think about Christmas. Continue to stay safe and healthy. Useful Links: |

It also has some pointers about how the important parts of last week’s lesson booklet. Please watch—if was a real challenge to get this to you! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Aho630UyMyhuGvbuI9UJDhqS-KRQTXST/view?usp=sharing As for this week, the Venture lesson talks a lot about community and how we need to work together in groups. (including as a church community!) As you work through the booklet, make sure you look at the questions on page 3 after you read the story. What do you think? The Gospel story on page 4 is pretty shocking—Here is a video version : https://youtu.be/GmJKWntv1DU When you keep going through the booklet you will learn that the Earth is a vineyard we all should care for! Here is a video about why Catholics care for the environment: https://youtu.be/wSnXuCxiHXE Remember that part of this program is that each family should do 30 min or prayer and service together each month. This month’s suggested service theme is care for the Earth https://stmichaelfamiliestogether.weebly.com/serving.html. Maybe you will find some inspiration for something you can do to help care for our environment! Try to let us know what you do each month. You can email your catechist ([email protected]) or use the contact boxes on the website or email [email protected] OR email Julie Sutton. |
